In loving memory November 11, 1971 - May 27, 1984

Chad Harwell was a Gulfwood Gator swimmer in the early 1980's. He lived with his family - his parents, older sister Lisa, and younger brother Daniel on Plainfield Road. When Chad was 10 years old, he developed cancer and was treated for some time at St. Jude's in Memphis. Even when he was sick and unable to participate, Chad was a big supporter of the Gulfwood Gators swim team, cheering his teammates on. Chad passed away in May 1984, at the beginning of the summer swim season, and the chad Harwell spirit award was given to both a 10 & under and 11 & up swimmer that year. After the creation of the Brian Sedlacek spirit award for 10 & under swimmers the following summer, it was then given to an 11 & up swimmer who gives his/her all - his/her enthusiasm, best effort and encouragement for the Gulfwood Gator swim team.
